Funding Priorities

  • Endowed deanships, chairs and professorships:  Funds used to attract and retain our outstanding faculty such as the 2 Nobel laureates, 2 MacArthur recipients, 6 Guggenheim professors and 1 Pulitzer Prize recipient already on our faculty.

  • Endowed scholarships & fellowships:  The best instrument the College has to attract the best and brightest students – and offer them support throughout their time at Mason.  Scholarships can be merit based, need based or a combination of both.  Scholarships are awarded through the individual departments, financial aid and the Dean’s office.

  • Program and research support:  A way to insure that our innovative and groundbreaking programs and research efforts continue throughout the College.  Many times travel and study abroad opportunities, for both students and faculty, are awarded from these funds.

  • Interdisciplinary programs:  Interdisciplinary Studies is for students who seek degrees that integrate knowledge from several disciplines. The program addresses the rapidly evolving demand for unique forms of study by promoting advanced scholarship that transcends traditional disciplinary boundaries.

  • Dean’s Fund for Excellence:  Unrestricted funds managed by the Dean for use throughout the year on everything from book scholarships to faculty stipends for teaching overseas.

  • College of Humanities and Social Sciences Scholarships:  Funds managed by the Dean used strictly for scholarships and awards - including the Dean's Challege Awards.
