My Application Status

Thank you for applying to the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS).  We know how important it is to follow the progress of your application, and the information below will help keep you informed as to your application status.

Once you submit an application, you will receive a system-generated email from Mason’s central Admissions Office (admissions@gmu.edu) acknowledging receipt of your application.  After your application has been processed, you will receive a second email from our office, the Office of Graduate Admissions for the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (chssgrad@gmu.edu), letting you know if there is anything missing from your application.  Our email will be sent once we have thoroughly reviewed your application for completeness, and checked-in the components of your application to our student information system.  In many cases, the second email will be a few weeks after you submitted your application.

From December through April CHSS processes nearly 2,400 applications.  During this peak period, we work closely with the departments to ensure they receive their applications in a timely manner.  The order of our application processing is determined by internal dates scheduled by our departmental admissions committees.  To find out what programs we are working on from week-to-week, you may check the Announcements from the CHSS Office of Graduate Admissions.

Please wait at least three weeks after submitting an application and support documentation to check your status via PatriotWeb. Only after we have processed your application and entered information into the student information system will the PatriotWeb accurately reflect your application status. Thus, we encourage you to look at the PatriotWeb only after you have received the second email from chssgrad@gmu.edu confirming that we have processed your application, and indicating what documents may be missing. Then, using the PatriotWeb you may view when missing documents arrive and are checked-in to the system.

Using PatriotWeb

The first time you login to PatriotWeb you will be asked to enter your Login ID and PIN.  Please use your Web ID and PIN you used at the time you created your online application.  Remember, it is case sensitive.

If you applied using the paper application, you will receive your Mason G Number in the second email from chssgrad@gmu.edu.  Your password initially will be set to the six-digit number for your date of birth, for example, January 27, 1985 would be 012785.

After entering the Application Menu, click on the admissions term link of the pending application section, for example: "Fall 2008."
